Text: Luke 2:4 –

And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom; and the grace of God was upon him. “

This was my scriptural picture (example) of the product of effective, successful and achieved parenting.

For all parents who wonder what it means to ” train up a child in the way he should go”, or how to raise empowered children; or what God means when he said he wants ” a godly seed”,this is the approved, authentic model of a “well-brought-up” person!

Parenting is the act (in fact, the art) of nurturing, raising and educating a child until adulthood – Proverbs 22:6).

I call it an art because parenting must be as unique and peculiar as every child is unique and peculiar. And an art is learnt; because it adds skill to your natural talents, gifts and endowments.
So parenting can/should be learnt. You don’t automatically become a good parent because you gave birth to the child. No wonder…!

The future of every seed (child born into any home) is not just in the planting/birth; it’s, much more,in the nurturing.

* To nurture is the action of raising or caring for offspring.
* It means to take care of, feed, and protect someone or something.
* It is the CARE and ATTENTION given to someone or something that is developing.

When you’re nurturing, you’re not trying to change the nature of the plant/child. No! You’re actually doing all that needs to be done to create the right environment that will help the plant /child to metamorphose or blossom into what it has already been fashioned to be by God.

God’s work is a finished work. The destiny of the plant/child is already concluded before it is planted/born – Jeremiah 1:5; Matthew 1:21.

So for effective and productive parenting, connect with your child.
Discover your child and help him /her to blossom into who he/she really is; who God has wired him/her to be in life.

That’s where the real work of parenting lies; that’s what Proverbs 22:6 means by: “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he grows up he will not depart from it. “
That’s all that parenting and nurturing demands of you.

So stop trying to squeeze your child into the mold you think or have been dreaming that he/she should fit into, for your own pride and gratification.
Those children are God’s property; you are just a privileged caretaker.

So be the parent you need to be to your child, not the parent you think you should be…
