WHAT ARE YOU TEACHING THE PEOPLE?

Text: Isaiah 2:3

“People from many nations will come and say, “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the lord, to the house of Jacob’s God.

There he will teach us his ways, and we will walk in his paths.”

For the lord’s teaching will go out from Zion; his word will go out from Jerusalem.”

Until the people are taught, they cannot live out, or experience the realities of the finished work of Jesus in their lives and endeavors.

One can only walk in the path of the ways he/she has been taught. For instance…

-God’s people cannot walk in the path of wealth and prosperity, except they’re taught God’s way of prosperity…

-They cannot walk in God’s ways of health and healing until they’re taught…

-They cannot walk in God’s way of victory except they are taught…

-They cannot walk in God’s way of love except they are taught…

-They cannot walk in God’s ways of righteousness, peace, joy, boldness, wisdom, etc except they are taught…Yes!

The world understands the responsibility of teaching people before they can effectively and efficiently power the various economic, social and political sectors of the society…

So they put primary, secondary and university levels of education in place…to equip people with the knowledge and training required to practice…

That’s why, for instance, one can’t practice law, architecture, engineering, medicine, accountancy, etc…until they have been taught the ways of these professions…

Christianity is a “profession” of faith…Yet there isn’t much effort and commitment put into training Christians for it!

That’s why there are so many “quack” Christians! Men and women, young and old, doing the Christ life without proper teaching and training for it by those who have been called to be “able ministers of the New Testament”…

So, many who have been set free from sin and satan to live a free life, are still in captivity…struggling and toiling in frustration caused by sheer ignorance! Read Hosea 4:6, Isaiah 5:13, Proverbs 13:15, Psalm 82:5-6.

Jeremiah lamented In Jeremiah 5:4:

“Then I said to myself, “Well, these are just poor people. They don’t know any better. They were never taught anything about God…” MSG

Proverbs 9:19 says…

“Instruct the wise, and they will be even wiser. Teach the righteous, and they will learn even more.”

That’s the primary responsibility of Ministry…not buildings, projects and church growth (as necessary as such things are, they are not authentic proofs of successful Ministry)!

When the people are well fed with knowledge and understanding, the church will grow…Healthy sheep will naturally give birth to more sheep…

Did Jesus not make that clear when he was handing the baton of leadership over to Peter (three times – emphatically!)?

Let’s see John 21:15-17,

“Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these…Feed my lambs…Feed my sheep…Feed my sheep…”

That’s why I always say that church is a Kingdom University…a Kingdom academy ( just like you have Military Academy, where people go to be trained in the way of the military)…

There’s no where else for the believer to go learn and be trained to practice Christianity except church – nowhere else!

That’s why God’s altar is not a place for cultural dance…or uncensored drama presentations that play out more of what the devil is doing in people’s lives…than what God has done for humanity in Christ …

Church is not a place for teaching people how to cook…or to make beads, soap, whatever…There are many places out there in the world where you can encourage or sponsor the people to go learn such things…

Church is not a place to teach cancer or aids awareness (with pictures that drive faith far from the people’s hearts, and enthrone the fear of sickness and death)…No,please!

Man of God…Woman of God…I ask again…What are you teaching God’s people? Examine yourself…Consider your ways…Please!

May I say this in closing…

1 Timothy 4:16,

“Look well to yourself [to your own personality] and to [your] teaching; persevere in these things [hold to them], for by so doing you will save both yourself and those who hear you.”

See the way Message Bible puts it:

“Keep a firm grasp on both your character and your teaching. Don’t be diverted. Just keep at it. Both you and those who hear you will experience salvation.”

I hope you have been blessed by this teaching? Grace is multiplied to you, in Jesus name!
