SPEAK COMFORTABLY TO GOD’S PEOPLE!
Text : Isaiah 40:2
“Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her,
that her warfare is accomplished,
that her iniquity is pardoned:
for she hath received of the Lord’s hand double for all her sins.”
It’s a great privilege and honor to be appointed and sent by God (as a Minister) to feed and grow and perfect his people with, especially, words.
As Ministers, we represent God (not ourselves, country, race, culture or social status) before the people he sent or sends us to…
So we have to be conscious of the fact that he should be the one that speaks through us. Jesus said in John 14:10 :
“…the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works….”
And in John 12:21, he said :
“…as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.”
HOW DO YOU SPEAK TO GOD’S PEOPLE?
We read in 2 Chronicles 32:6,
“And he set captains of war over the people, and gathered them together to him…and spake comfortably to them, saying…”
Don’t speak the people’s problems, faults, mistakes, or inadequacies to them!
Don’t speak to them with your mind on the challenges they’re going through!
Don’t speak what is going on in the society or the world to God’s people…you will make their hearts fear!
Don’t bring bad news from the news, or the newspapers to the people…People are at different levels of spiritual understanding and maturity!
Rather, “speak comfortably” to the people…Isaiah 50:4 says:
“The Lord God hath given me the tongue of the learned,
that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary…”
WHAT DO YOU SPEAK ?
>Speaking comfortably to God’s people is simply speaking scriptural realities to them…It is called, “the comfort of scriptures”…
Let’s see Romans 15:4:
“For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.”
It is speaking to them what God has said concerning them, and whatever challenge they’re passing through…
>It is speaking God’s mind, thoughts and ways concerning matters…Isaiah 55:8-11: Jeremiah 29:11.
> It is speaking messages from God…with God’s own very words to the people…Like we see in the valley of dry bones in Ezekiel 37:1-10…Ezekiel said,
“So I prophesied as I was commanded…”
God was telling his prophet in Ezekiel 3:4,
“And he said unto me, Son of man, go, get thee unto the house of Israel, and speak with my words unto them.”
Did you see that? Only God’s Word can minister God’s desire, and what his people need from him to them…
You May think you know what they need…they may even think they know what they need, but only their Heavenly Father knows exactly what they need at any moment…
>Speaking comfortably to God’s people is speaking “the comfort of the Holy Ghost” – Acts 9:31…
That is, being sensitive to the Holy Spirit I (the Comforter himself) in you, always, for the words and unction with which to speak to them…words that he will receive from the Father -John 16:13-14…for he knows the things that are in the heart of God for each of them…
Paul said 1 Corinthians 2:13,
“When we tell you these things, we do not use words that come from human wisdom. Instead, we speak words given to us by the Spirit, using the Spirit’s words to explain spiritual truths.” Alleluia!
>Speaking comfortably to God’s people is speaking to them with the legal realities of the finished work of Jesus…
That is why a full personal, accurate, complete and exact knowledge of these New Testament realities must be your daily hunger…Otherwise I’m very sorry for the people you’re teaching, preaching and ministering to!
Note what God said to his prophet to do before going to speak to the people he was sending him to…
“Moreover he said unto me, Son of man, eat that thou findest; eat this roll, and go speak unto the house of Israel…
So I opened my mouth, and he caused me to eat that roll. And he said unto me, Son of man, cause thy belly to eat, and fill thy bowels with this roll that I give thee.
Then did I eat it; and it was in my mouth as honey for sweetness.”
That’s why spending time with God in meditations, intense, diligent Word study, fin fasting soften, prayer, worship and thanksgiving is more important in Ministry than anything else…no matter how urgent and seemingly important that thing might be.
I pray that God multiplies grace and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ to you …in Jesus name!
Stay committed, focused on the job…and stay loyal to the one who has called you…your reward is sure…though it tarries, wait for it, it will surely come, I tell you! Peace!
