Text: Luke 5:17

“And it came to pass on a certain day, as he was teaching, that there were Pharisees and doctors of the law sitting by…and the power of the Lord was present to heal them.”

I have taken time to study Jesus’ Ministry (as recorded in the four gospels)…

And there is one beautiful and encouraging phenomenon I took note of…

Which made me know that it’s not about me…it’s about the gospel…(the gospel makes you, and makes the people you preach it to). That’s right!

Acts 10:38 says:

“How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil…”

What I caught my attention was that healing for the sick and oppressed was characteristic of the Ministry of Jesus…Yet we were never told that he held any special healing meetings or crusades!

I saw very clearly that the healing testimonies and miracles were inevitable fallouts of his teaching and preaching Ministry…They were neither planned nor orchestrated…

That is, the power that came with his teaching and preaching of the gospel of the Kingdom of God, was what was generating the healings and miracles.

Let’s look at Matthew 4:23:

“And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people…

they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatick, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them.”

This came out very clear in Luke 6:17,

“And he came down with them, and stood in the plain, and the company of his disciples, and a great multitude of people out of all Judaea and Jerusalem, and from the sea coast of Tyre and Sidon, which came to hear him, and to be healed of their diseases…”

Did you see that? It says, “which came to hear him, and to be healed of their diseases”…

As they were hearing him teach and preach about God’s love and goodness…the power of God’s love that his words were pregnant with, was establishing their desire for healing and wholeness…which was indeed God’s will for them. Alleluia!

It was the same phenomenon when Phillip went to Samaria and preached Christ to the people:

“Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached Christ unto them. And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did. For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed with them: and many taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed.”

They decided to give heed to his preaching, because they saw the results that what he was saying produced.

As a Minister of the Gospel…

-get a perfect (accurate, complete and exact) knowledge and understanding of this gospel of Christ (no mixture, no embellishment) because this gospel does not need your help to produce results…Yes!

Look at what Colossians 1:6 says:

“For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel; Which is come unto you, as it is in all the world; and bringeth forth fruit…

In Romans 1:16, Paul said it’s loaded with power that gives salvation (deliverance from sin and every evil that came with it into this world).

In Romans 15:29, Paul also tells us that it’s loaded with fullness of blessings…So, really, the gospel of Christ doesn’t need your help to produce, Preacher!

So stop stressing, stop pushing to see results in Ministry, okay?

-Just focus on preaching and teaching it…in all simplicity…You don’t need too much grammar…That’s What Paul was saying in 1 Corinthians 2:4:

“And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power…”

Why so? “That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.”

-Again, be so persuaded about the power of the gospel you have been called to preach, so much that you preach it with boldness and unwavering conviction about what it will do for the people who hear you teaching or preaching it…

And let them know it…Make bold claims about what the power of the message you’re bringing to them will do for them (like Jesus did in Luke 4:18)…

I tell you, it will ignite their hearts and minds with expectations that the power of the gospel will be in a hurry to fulfill…

It will also make them pay rapt attention to your message…Yes!

One more thing: don’t crack unnecessary jokes, or create any side attraction just to get the people’s attention…It’s not necessary…And you’re not a comedian or an entertainer, neither are you in Ministry for popularity…

When you preach or teach under the anointing of the Holy Spirit, the gospel has enough charisma to command the people’s undivided attention.

Be blessed and marvelously increased continually, in Jesus name! Peace.

I would love to hear from you!
