(Attention Parents)

Text : 2 Peter 2:14

“..They have a heart trained in covetous practices…” -NKJV

Did you know your heart can be trained to determine how your whole life plays out?

Yes… because Proverbs 4:23 makes us understand that your heart powers your life…

“Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.” – NLT

Christianity is a heart business – John 4:23-24.

Relationship with God is a heart business…

That’s why God is interested in the state of our hearts…

That came out clear in Jesse’s house, when Prophet Samuel almost anointed the wrong son, Eliab, as king.

God said to Samuel,

“…Pay no attention to how tall and handsome he is. I have rejected him, because I do not judge as people judge. They look at the outward appearance, but I look at the heart.” – GNT

That’s why Jesus, referring to the importance of the quality of a man’s heart, said in Matthew 12:33 -35,

“Either make the tree sound (healthy and good), and its fruit sound (healthy and good), or make the tree rotten (diseased and bad), and its fruit rotten (diseased and bad); for the tree is known and recognized and judged by its fruit.” – AMPC

So the heart can be trained in that which is good…Just like it can also be trained in that which is evil…So a man either does good or evil, based on how and with what material his heart has been trained…Yes!

You can train your heart or your child’s heart to practice righteousness, for instance.

You can train your heart to practice prosperity, peace, praise, worship,

thanksgiving, integrity, love, patience, gentleness, honesty, tolerance, gratitude, etc.

So, check your life, whatever you see yourself (or your child (ren) practicing now, is from the heart…You can not separate who a person is, or how he or she behaves from the quality of his/her heart.

Jesus continued in Matthew 12:35,

“A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things.” – NKJV…No two ways about it, people!

Still talking about the heart, he said in Mark 7: 21-23…

“For from the inside, from your heart, come the evil ideas which lead you to do immoral things, to rob, kill, commit adultery, be greedy, and do all sorts of evil things; deceit, indecency, jealousy, slander, pride, and folly— all these evil things come from inside you and make you unclean.” -GNT

This was why God promised to give man a new heart in Ezekiel 36:25-27…And in Christ, this promise was fulfilled – Read 2Corinthians 5:17-21

God will only and always relate with you based on what he sees in your heart…Proverbs 16:1,

“The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, is from the Lord.” – KJV

Your heart dictates your ways, your language, your doings.

So…What does God want your heart full of?

He wants your heart merry, willing, wise, obedient, glad, cheerful…and full of:

-his Word, faith, love, understanding,

-the fear of God, might, compassion, meekness, peace, etc.

This will require diligent, committed training…Because when you got born again, God gave you a new heart that needs to be trained to power your born again life.

How do you train the heart?

1.First..rescue your heart from the love of money, idolatry, greed or whatever you had hitherto given it to, that has been controlling you)…and give God your heart – Proverbs 23:26

2.Use the Word of Christ to re-educate your heart…

– 2 Timothy 3:15-17; Colossians 3:16, Proverbs 4:20-23,

Psalm 9:7-8; Psalm 1:1-3; John 17:17

3.Keep your heart clean and defended by the Word and the blood

Hebrews 9:13; Psalm 119:11

4.Keep your heart strengthened by the Holy Spirit…through a lifestyle of prayer – James 5:16b; Colossians 4:2…praying in the Holy Ghost (tongues) always…Ephesians 3:16; Jude 1:20.

May this teaching spark of a new and profitable thing in your life, in Jesus name!
