WHY DO CHRISTIANS SIN?
Text : 1 John 3:9
“Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.”
The Kingdom of God (which is presently in every believer…and we’re supposed to express its reality for the world to see, believe and come into)…is the Kingdom of righteousness, the Kingdom of people who have been made righteous – Matthew 13:43; 2 Corinthians 5:21.
Psalm 45:7 says of Jesus,
“Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness:
therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee
with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.”
If you love righteousness enough, dear brother/sister, you will hate wickedness – like Jesus did…for when you received him as Lord and Savior, you were recreated in him with his very righteousness as your new nature (the righteousness of God).
And 1 John 3:9-10 has said,
“Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God…”
What a blessed assurance! That is, born a new creation in Christ, with the nature of righteousness, I absolutely do not have the ability or capacity to sin -that’s right! Because righteousness CANNOT SIN!
So, why do Christians sin? I’ll tell you…
Christians sin because…
-they don’t love righteousness enough…
-the love of the world rules their heart more than the love of God…
-they are not conscious of their righteousness nature, and the fact that sin has no more power over them…as Romans 6:14 makes us understand.
Jesus, when he was here on earth (in the likeness of who we are now as believers) was tempted at all points, but he never sinned…because he walked in the consciousness of his righteousness, and his dominion over sin and satan.
He said in John 14:30,
“…for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.”
The love of righteousness releases to you the anointing and wisdom to overcome every temptation to sin – Read Luke 4:1-14.
So, any Christian who commits an act of sin, simply chose to do so…That’s right!
Why do Christians sin?
-Because the word of Christ is not hidden in their hearts – Read Psalm 119:11; Psalm 40:8; Proverbs 4:20-21…
-Because they do not guard their heart with all diligence as Proverbs 4:23 warned… See how the Good News Translation puts it, “Be careful how you think; your life is shaped by your thoughts.”
Why do Christians sin?
-Because they don’t practice righteousness…Jesus said in John 8:29
“And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him?” That is, “I practice righteousness.”
If you don’t practice righteousness, you will practice wickedness/sin/unrighteousness. Whatever is contrary to the dictates of “instruction in righteousness” is sin.
Sinners (those who still have the sin nature inherited from the father of all humans – Adam) practice sin…But believers ( those who are born again and now have the nature of righteousness- in Christ) practice righteousness.
There is no excuse…because in 2 Timothy 3:16-17 we see that God has made adequate provisions in his Word to equip us to practice righteousness (our new nature, which is also his nature…now that we have become partakers of his own very kind of life (eternal life/Zoe).
The more you read, study, meditate and pray the Word of God…the more your old mind that cooperated with the sin nature you were born into this world with…will begin to cooperate with your new nature to exercise dominion over sin and satan, and practice righteousness…Yes!
It’s not going to be magic…it’s a process. Just give yourself fully and sincerely to it…and be patient to see the fruits, okay?
If you miss it, don’t beat yourself up…don’t let satan plague you with condemnation, guilt and sin-consciousness…Just draw from the forgiveness that has been deposited into your account….And…Stay righteousness-conscious – that’s where the power is!
Romans 5:17 says you have been blessed with abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness, as a new man in Christ…Now, begin to make the most of it to exercise your authority, and live in dominion over sin and satan…in Jesus name! Peace!
