From The Book:  THE MAN GOD USES  by Oswald J.  Smith

“You remember that the Apostle Paul said, ‘This one thing i do.’ Paul was a man of one thing.

The man who is going to be successful (in ministry) is the man who has set everything aside, who has become a man of one thing, one purpose, one aim in life.

Any man with divided interest, any man with many schemes, plans and programmes, any man who is interested in other things, is not going to be successful  (in ministry). The one who is going to succeed is the one who has but one great purpose in life.

When I was a student, I never dreamed of getting married until I had graduated and had commenced my ministry.  For a student to take upon him the responsibility of a wife and family, is a tremendous financial burden. If his interests are thus divided, how can he concentrate on his studies and expect to succeed in his work? Would it not be better to wait until  he is through with his schooling before taking such a step?

I never have been able to understand how some ministers can carry on their work as ministers and the same time go into business on the side.

If God calls a man to preach the Gospel, he should live by the Gospel. There is no reason why he should make a little money on the side. If he turns to business he’s going to become interested in business. He will give thought to it and he will not be a man of one thing. Part of his time will be spent in the ministry and part in business.

I have learnt that the ministry demands all that there is of a man. It requires his entire attention  – all his thought, all his study, both day and night. He must be completely wrapped up in his vocation. He must be given over absolutely to the one great work to which God has called him….

Can a wife be a successful wife if she is interested in another man? Can a husband be a successful husband if he is interested in another woman? You know the answer…

My friend, have you a number of different interests? Are you trying to do several things instead of devoting yourself to the one great work to which God has called you? Do you want to be a success? Then, I say again, concentrate on one thing… “

Not much attention has ever been given to the story of the daughters of Zelophehad (in the Bible) in our times. I saw in these ladies, such a show of courage that I would say is typical of the woman and also worthy of emulation. They were women who dared to stand up for what was theirs (despising age-long laws and tradition) and changed the course of history. And they even had God’s backing for it! They came to Moses and said,

“Why should the name of our father be done away from among his family, because he hath no son? Give unto us therefore a possession among the brethren of our father”. ~Numbers 27:4

Hear what God said to Moses,

And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, The daughters of Zelophehad speak right: thou shalt surely give them a possession of an inheritance among their father’s brethren; and thou shalt cause the inheritance of their father to pass unto them.
And thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel, saying, If a man die, and have no son, then ye shall cause his inheritance to pass unto his daughter.
And if he have no daughter, then ye shall give his inheritance unto his brethren.
And if he have no brethren, then ye shall give his inheritance unto his father’s brethren. ~ Numbers 27:6-10

Much later, some people rose up and contested this divine order, and at the end of the day, this was Moses’ verdict:

This is the thing which the LORD doth command concerning the daughters of Zelophehad, saying, Let them marry to whom they think best; only to the family of the tribe of their father shall they marry.
So shall not the inheritance of the children of Israel remove from tribe to tribe: for every one of the children of Israel shall keep himself to the inheritance of the tribe of his fathers.
Even as the LORD commanded Moses, so did the daughters of Zelophehad~ Numbers 36:6-7, 10

Let’s also read about Job’s daughters,

And in all the land were no women found so fair as the daughters of Job: and their father gave them inheritance among their brethren. ~Job 42:15

The good news is this (for all who care to know):

For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature. ~Galatians 6:15

The scriptures also make us understand that God doesn’t look at the new creature as either male or female. He sees us and evaluates us as spirit beings, possessing his nature of eternal life and his character of righteousness.

It’s also wonderful to know that the new birth has taken us from possessing lands and property here on earth to possessors of heaven and earth (together with Christ). That’s what is said here-

The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. ~ Romans 8:16-17

Any man who despises the gift of a female child to his family is slapping God in the face. It’s like telling God he’s stupid; because he is the one that gave your seed a female body in your wife’s womb “as he pleases”; not according to your selfish desires. There’s no day our desires will supersede or abort God’s concluded plans and purposes for us and the world of humanity that he “so loved”.

Good Morning Jesus!

“Your Christianity is your greatest asset in life. The fullness of God’s potentials in you to be all that He has created you to be,is provoked to full manifestation by a quality Christian life. I learnt to define Christianity as: a diligent pursuit of God for a great destiny. Your Christianity comes to full bloom when Christ is formed in you…

It is possible to be a great Christian!”
